Instructor’s Bio

John Walker is a full-time instructor in Career and Technical Education at Gresham
High School. John has been teaching full time for the last nine years in Professional
Technical Education, including three at a regional professional technical high school.
He worked for more than 20 years as an Information Technology manager working for
high technology firms providing systems and networking design and management.
One of his favorite positions was as Director of Technology for a group of Paul Allen
companies including the Portland Trail Blazers. He has been using and administering
*NIX systems since the first commercial system (a Fortune 32:16) was released in
1982.

Returning again to the Working Connections conference, John is hoping to redeem
himself after not managing to help his team during the annual disc golf tournament,
there are rumors of practice on Tuesday. Last year he actually rode his bicycle home
after the conference to Portland, Oregon, intercepting his son in Denver.   This year
without his son to take care of him, he will fly home.

He completed his Masters in Career & Technical Education program at Concordia
University last year and is currently working towards his PhD. He is a registered
Professional Engineer in the State of Oregon, and holds numerous certifications
including a RedHat RHCT, Microsoft MCSE, Novell ECNE, Sun Microsystems SSA, and
Cisco CCNA certificates as well as certifications from Mentor Graphics and Intergraph
in Computer Aided Engineering/Design and Systems Administration.
